About allergen immunotherapy

Allergen immunotherapy (AIT) is a specific treatment designed to treat the underlying cause of a given allergic disease. Treatment consists of exposing a person, under close medical supervision, to strictly measured increments of the allergen. Treatment aims to desensitise the specific immune responses that lead to the allergic reaction leading to increased allergen-specific immune tolerance and a reduction in related symptoms¹.
